Taiwan: the lone survivor

The Taiwan government likes to feel it has escaped much of the Asian financial storm. They still have some growth and their currency has fallen, but not so steeply as elsewhere. They have been able to maintain a fair amount of exports into the US because of the sort of products they produce: completed electrical and hi-tech goods made up of components which are produced elsewhere and have become incredibly cheap. They have some reasonably dynamic companies that have invested in the right places, and they have been able to maintain a fair degree of stability and prosperity to pipe out to the rest of the region.
